BIRT, or Business Intelligence Reporting Tools, is a project of the Eclipse Foundation, which produced and continues to update this open-source project for anyone who wishes to use its software. Actuate, a co-sponsor of the project, regularly contributes to the project.
Actuate also produces BIRT-based commercial products that are fully compatible with BIRT updates and releases, and leads the development process. These products include software engines, report and spreadsheet design and viewing tools, servers and web portals.

The visibility and popularity of Actuate and BIRT products have resulted in more than three million BIRT downloads to date.
