The Actuate Upgrade Strategy Package provides customers with five days of Actuate Professional Services assistance to ensure a best practice/best use approach for an Actuate upgrade.

The objectives of the Actuate Upgrade Strategy Package include the following:

  • Conduct an upgrade readiness assessment of the customer’s current environment and provide the best, lowest risk, approach for the upgrade path given current environmental or business constraints
  • Provide recommendations on the best use of Actuate to support current and future reporting requirements with the new features available in the latest Actuate release
  • Create an upgrade and migration task plan that the customer can employ to smoothly upgrade to the latest Actuate release

    Upgrade Readiness Assessment

    Actuate Professional Services consultants will analyze the current implementation, identify functional and implementation gaps and conduct a thorough impact analysis of the upgrade. Based on the data collected, Actuate Professional Services consultants will develop a detailed plan that will be used to ensure a smooth and well-choreographed upgrade process that minimizes impact on the user community and the IT staff.

    Enhanced Transition

    Actuate Professional Services consultants have an indepth knowledge of Actuate products and related technology, and share the goal of making Actuate customers successful in their projects. During the project, customers will have the opportunity to become familiar with the latest features of Actuate, including:

    • Developer productivity improvements in BIRT Report Designer Professional, e.Report Designer Professional, e.Spreadsheet Designer and Information Object Designer
    • Ad-hoc web report development using BIRT Report Studio Professional
    • Interactive reporting and report personalization through interactive viewing
    • Collaborative report development leveraging design sharing across skill-specific environments
    • Automated Information Object creation from e.Reports
    • SmartSheet Security in e.Spreadsheets

    Task Plan

    Based on the upgrade readiness assessment and the ability to incorporate new features/functionality, Actuate Professional Services will provide guidance on making the best choice between a straightforward version upgrade and a gradual migration effort to incrementally leverage new functionality in the product. The resulting task plan will include the following common activities:

    • Upgrade other products within the environment to comply with the list of Actuate supported products
    • Upgrade the Actuate Portal, security implementations and customizations
    • Upgrade/Migrate all the reports
    • Upgrade/Migrate API programs
    • Upgrade/Migrate Report Encyclopedia
    • Conduct detailed testing

    A Proven Methodology

    Actuate To ensure a successful migration strategy, Actuate Professional Services employs a team approach and leverages a flexible project implementation methodology. This methodology ensures that the reporting architecture preserves existing functionality while opening the opportunity to use the latest features of the new release.

    Utilizing Actuate Professional Services will greatly reduce the implementation and deployment risks associated with the subsequent upgrade activity, which often stall adoption of new features and capabilities. Actuate Professional Services will staff the team with highly qualified, certified consultants and can optionally assign a professional services project manager to lead the engagement. During the project, the team will transfer knowledge of new features to the customer’s team.
