Easy-to-use Cube Design and Analysis Products for IT, Business and End Users
Actuate Analytics effectively balances the needs of business and end users and the IT developer so that OLAP is effective and practical.
For end users:
- Self-service business analytics without training – Actuate Analytics delivers rich, robust OLAP capabilities: slice and dice, filter, sort, hide, calculate, drill-to-detail and more. Analytics is distinguished by an intuitive approach to data analysis that doesn’t require costly end-user training and ensures a high adoption rate. IT controls the extent to which a user can interact with the data by setting which features users can access in the Analytics Cube Viewer. End users can work in varied presentation formats, online or offline, and export to Excel, PDF or other desktop products for continued analysis or data redistribution.
- Personalized cubes that scale to thousands – Actuate Analytics cubes are specifically designed to serve end users. The hierarchical structure of categories, in-cube transformations, calculated measures and measure summaries are designed by IT, as are the parameterized queries that define the cube's original dataset. Relatively large data sets can be summarized into small, user-specific cubes. The Analytics interface that is delivered with the cube can be controlled by IT, which also controls its color scheme, format and branding. Actuate Analytics can be transparently embedded within existing applications and portals.
- Offline mobility and desktop performance – Actuate Analytics offers each user the unique ability to work offline with their own personal cube. This is possible because both cube data and the Cube Viewer are delivered directly to the user's browser. The result is a highly responsive analytic experience that lets users easily save and share their favorite views of the cube.
For business analysts:
- The Actuate Analytics Viewer combines common data analysis features with a dynamic interface so that users with a wide range of analytic experience can easily navigate and explore their cube. This viewer then lets users create, save and share cube reports with other users.
- Rich analytic experience – The Analytics Cube Viewer provides a robust and rich OLAP experience. End users can drag, drop and pivot a cube's dimensions and measures within a tabular or graphical view. They can also expand, collapse and navigate hierarchies; create custom calculations; sort, filter and hide columns; and add conditional highlighting to cells. Once the desired view is achieved, it can be saved and refreshed as the cube is refreshed or exported to Microsoft Office®.
- Powerful interactive visualization – Analytics offers users an easy-to-use graphical visualization. Pie, bar and line graphs are automatically plotted from any view, and hierarchy levels can be expanded and collapsed within graphs. The result is highly visual representation of cube information.
- Shared cube reports – Cube Views can be saved offline and published to the iServer. They can also be emailed, exported and printed.
For IT:
- OLAP cube definition – The designer builds a cube profile which contains the source data location, query and structure definitions, and maps to categories and measures to be created in the cube. The cube design file can be fully parameterized, categories are extremely flexible and measures can be derived directly or through in-cube transformations. The Analytics Cube Designer can also build a cube directly, allowing designers to rapidly prototype and test their solutions, reducing development time and costs. The Actuate Analytics Cube Designer allows IT to control the definition of a cube, its data, its structure and the user interface experience that accompanies it. The Cube Designer includes an easy-to-use query editor to retrieve information from relational data sources. The editor offers drag-and-drop business hierarchy and column manipulation, parameterization, direct SQL access and data preview capabilities.
- Advanced analytic capabilities – The Analytics Designer supports numerous advanced capabilities including automatically handling relative time periods such as "Year to Date." The designer supports creation of ragged hierarchies, and includes the ability to add hyperlinks from within the cube or insert custom business logic directly.
- Seamless integration and extensibility – Developers can embed Analytics cubes in existing applications. From within the designer, IT controls branding and color schemes of all interfaces, as well as the exposure of each feature within the end-user’s Cube Viewer. The Analytics Cube Viewer can also be configured to operate directly against Microsoft Analysis Services.
