BIRT Certification

We offer two levels of Certification for those using the new BIRT design tools.

The first certification, the BIRT Certified Developer, validates the exam taker's knowledge of the BIRT report design environment.  This is a 90 minute, written exam made up of multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions.  This exam covers knowledge of the designer features, report creation and customization. 

The second, the BIRT Certified Professional exam, validates the exam taker's knowledge of the BIRT design tools, as well as the ability to integrate and deploy BIRT reports using the BIRT API's.  This hands-on exam is a 4 hour exam, made up of the BIRT Certified Developer exam and hands on exercises that test the examinees ability to build complex reports and to use the Design, Report and Chart engine APIs. 

The Developer exam can be taken  separately, but must be passed before taking the hands-on portion of the Professional exam.  

To prepare for the BIRT certification exams, we recommend, but do not require, the following: 

BIRT Report Certified Developer

• Attend the Working with BIRT Designer Professional training course offered through Actuate University
• Study the Addison-Wesley reference book, BIRT, A Field Guide to Reporting  
• Prepare for and pass the BIRT Certified Developer exam (Download a Study Kit)

BIRT Report Certified Professional

• Attend the Working with BIRT Report Designer Professional and Using the BIRT Integration APIs training courses offered through Actuate University
• Carefully study the Addison-Wesley reference books, BIRT, A Field Guide to Reporting and Integrating and Extending BIRT.
• It is strongly recommended that the examinee have hands-on experience building and deploying BIRT reports before taking this exam.
• Preparing for and passing the BIRT Certified Professional exam.

e.Report Designer Certification

We offer two levels of Certification for those using our legacy tool, the e.Report Designer Professional.

The first certification, the e.Report Certified Developer, validates the exam taker's knowledge of the e.Report Designer.  This is a 90 minute, written exam made up of multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions.  This exam covers knowledge of the designer features, report creation and customization. 

The second certification, the e.Report Certified Professional, is made up of the Certified Developoer exam and a series of hands-on exercises testing the examinees' knowledge of the e.Report designer features, as well as their ability to customize e.Reports using Actuate Basic and the AFC framework.  The hands-on exam is made up of the e.Report Certified Developer exam and the hands-on exercises of the Certified Professional exam.   

The Developer exam can be taken separately from the professional exam, but must be passed before taking the  Professional exam.  

To prepare for the e.Report certification exams, we strongly recommend, but do not require the following:

• Attend the Working with e.Report Designer Professional and the Developing Customized Reports training courses offered through Actuate University
• Prepare for and pass the Certified e.Report Developer exam 

e.Report Designer Certified Professional

• Attend the e.Report Designer Professional and Developing Customized reports training courses offered through Actuate University
• Prepare for and pass the Actuate Developer exam

Actuate offers certification on version 2.3.1 and 2.5.2 of BIRT and on versions 9 and 10 of our e.Report Designer Professional application.  For any of our exams, we strongly recommend that you attend the appropriate training courses offered through Actuate University.

The exam is a proctored, and delivered at our regional offices. Upon successful completion of the certification exam, individuals receive a certificate signifying their success. To view a list of Frequently Asked Questions: click here.
