Actuate Announces Alliance with MongoDB, Adding Increased NoSQL Big Data Capabilities for BIRT Developers

Collaboration between Actuate and MongoDB in response to popular demand from the community of more than three million BIRT developers

San Mateo, Calif., November 7, 2013Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: BIRT), The BIRT Company™ – and the leader in personalized analytics and insights, today announced an alliance with MongoDB, the company behind the synonymous open source NoSQL database used by organizations of all sizes to keep up with demand for unstructured Big Data management. The collaboration will enable developers to apply Actuate’s secure and scalable analytics capabilities to the document-based MongoDB environment. A popular choice for dynamic queries, MongoDB stores data using a BSON (Binary JSON) data interchange structure for data storage and network transfers. To facilitate the use of the two products together Actuate now offers a MongoDB Open Data Access Plugin for BIRT.

“We’re pleased to partner with Actuate, extending their analytics capabilities to our large developer community,” said Matt Asay, Vice President of Business Development and Corporate Strategy at MongoDB. “MongoDB is popular with developers because of its ease of use and stability. In addition to data visualization enabled by BIRT, MongoDB enables search and retrieval across a large number of transactions for Big Data implementations.”

MongoDB Open Data Access (ODA) Plugin for BIRT
The MongoDB ODA plugin for BIRT leverages the dynamic query of rich document schemas, including sub-documents and array fields as well as an aggregation framework, while running selected read-only database command operations. The plugin connects BIRT to MongoDB, creating a scalable, secure and intuitive toolset for building comprehensive visualizations in BIRT from MongoDB-based data.

With commercial BIRT-based products from Actuate, BIRT developers have built applications that have already delivered personalized insights to over 200 million people. And Actuate provides the best migration option from open source BIRT when developers need massive scalability and security for their applications. As a MongoDB Advanced Partner, Actuate provides BIRT developers with better access to MongoDB technical resources, to support them in the development of combined solutions with the highest degree of symbiotic functionality.
