ActuateOne and BIRT Mobile Deliver a Unified User Experience in the Office and on Mobile Devices
San Mateo, Calif. – October 27, 2010 – Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: ACTU), The people behind BIRT® and the leading open source Business Intelligence (BI) vendor, today announced that BIRT Mobile is available for Apple® and Blackberry® devices. ActuateOne’s one design, one server and one user experience combined with BIRT Mobile’s native support for multiple mobility architectures make Actuate the only vendor to seamlessly deliver content via mobile browsers, native applications, custom applications and an SDK integrated with the Apple iOS framework - providing developers with full flexibility to include BIRT content in their mobile applications and ensuring a unified user experience from the office to the mobile device.
BIRT Mobile’s native support simplifies development of mobile BI applications for rapid deployment and a seamless user experience. BIRT Mobile includes BIRT Mobile Viewer and HD Viewer for iPad™, true native applications used with BIRT iServer or with BIRT onDemand, Actuate’s Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering. BIRT onDemand instantly delivers personalized BIRT content to mobile users with one click, significantly increasing productivity for IT departments, developers and users.
“Actuate is among the handful of vendors to provide native platform support across a majority of mobile platforms according to the latest Dresner Advisory Services Mobile Business Intelligence Study. Native mobile platform support dramatically enhances the user experience and is a key attribute in vendor selection," said Howard Dresner, principal, Dresner Advisory Services. “With innovations on the growing array of highly interactive and intelligent mobile devices, vendors that can deliver on a relevant and continuous end user experience seem poised to stay ahead of the competition.”
Actuate is the only BI vendor that supports and deploys all four data access capabilities of mobile devices, ensuring that application developers have full flexibility to efficiently develop a mobile BI application that fulfils business requirements:
- Browser Access: Actuate and BIRT content has always been accessible via Internet browsers and can be viewed by any mobile device that includes a browser.
- Native Application Access: Actuate offers two viewers offering native access - BIRT Mobile, which supports Apple iPad, iPhone™, iPod Touch™ and Blackberry devices and BIRT Mobile HD, a premium application that includes iPad-specific features such as annotation and email. These viewers embrace the native capabilities of specific devices, including the ability to drill down into content, orientation awareness, touch navigation, email and phone dialing.
- Custom Application Access: BIRT developers can use BIRT iServer or BIRT onDemand to instantly “mobilize” their custom applications. BIRT content need not be duplicated for mobile deployment.
- SDK Integrated with Apple iOS framework: The BIRT Mobile SDK integrates natively with the Apple iOS framework, allowing BIRT content to be easily included in applications for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch with speed and ease. The SDK also allows iOS developers to work with BIRT content via a cohesive set of Objective-C objects, greatly shortening the time required to embed BIRT into any mobile application.
“With BIRT Mobile, Actuate provides multiple deployment options for interactive enterprise information based on project size, user requirements and budget to meet the needs of increasingly mobile BI end users,” said Nobby Akiha, senior vice president of marketing at Actuate. “BIRT Mobile, based on ActuateOne, extends BIRT-based data visualizations to mobile devices with the same singularity of user experience that our customers have come to expect from Actuate. Additionally, mobile applications deployed using ActuateOne maximize developer productivity and optimize the end user experience within a unified environment.”
