Rich Information Applications from Actuate and BIRT allow Ymor to Deliver Real-Time Application Performance Alerts to iPhones & iPads, Without Need for Further Development

London, UK – May 11, 2010 – Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: ACTU), The people behind BIRT®, today announced that Dutch application performance management specialist, Ymor, has highlighted the power and flexibility of its BIRT data analysis and reporting platform by extending its capabilities to the iPhone and iPad.

Ymor is using Actuate and BIRT, the leading open source information application development environment, to give clients up-to-the-minute information about the status of their critical business applications, including SAP, Siebel and Citrix, to ensure business continuity. To extend these benefits further, Ymor has now developed a simple interface for the iPhone and iPad, giving clients real-time, snapshot status information and alerts - tuned to an individual’s priorities - any time and anywhere. This means they can proactively resolve problems before they affect business continuity. Ymor’s clients include large banks, insurance companies, utilities and government organisations across the Benelux region.

As a young company with a rapidly growing customer base, Ymor wanted to maximise its investment in Actuate and BIRT to derive the best possible service levels for its customers, to grow its business and ensure contract renewals. However, it had observed a drop-off in clients’ use of its dynamic, interactive web-based dashboards, as organisations had become increasingly complacent about the performance of their critical applications.

To save them time, and to ensure clients didn’t miss something vital, Ymor wanted to find a way to push out critical ‘alert’ information to them, using the latest technology. This would also make Ymor appear current. By simply adding a new interface, Ymor has been able to extend the powerful interactive Web-based dashboard capabilities of its Actuate and BIRT based solution to the iPhone and iPad, so that critical alerts and pre-selected information can be pushed out to clients without the need to access a special web site.

No additional development was needed to extend this new facility to customers. Clients can now choose their own filters to determine the information that is delivered to the iPhone, which can be tweaked easily as preferences change. Ymor now offers free iPhones and the new service to qualifying customers, enhancing the perceived value of the solution, and ensuring a high level of contract renewals.

Since offering the new solution, interactions with Ymor’s application monitoring reporting solutions have soared with 73% of customers using it weekly.  The new solution is a powerful sales aid, too, showing new clients the performance of their key applications, and any potential issues, at a glance.

“This gives us an exciting new string to our bow,” says Richard Budding, co-founder of Ymor. “It has enhanced the value perceived by our clients and multiplied the return on our investment in Actuate and BIRT.”

Commenting on the development, Actuate’s VP of EMEA, Steve Fluin, says, “This kind of innovation demonstrates just how sophisticated and flexible a Rich Information Application development platform BIRT is. Without any additional development investment, Ymor has been able to transform the service it offers to its customers, adding visible new value by adapting to the latest technology and the changing way people work.”
