City of Chicago Saves $10 million with Actuate’s BIRT Performance Scorecard
San Mateo, Calif. – November 3, 2009 – Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: ACTU), the people behind BIRT™, today announced that it has awarded a 2009 Excellence Award for Performance Management to City of Chicago. The Actuate Excellence Awards recognize innovation and impressive return on investment among Actuate customers and BIRT users. City of Chicago has won in the Big Bang category for constantly expanding Performance Management with Actuate’s BIRT Performance Scorecard.
Before City of Chicago deployed BIRT Performance Scorecard, the city had no centralized automated tool for managing or reporting data. With BIRT, the organization now has real time, centralized access to performance metrics for the Budget Office and the Mayor’s Office. This allows for performance management to be a constant and dynamic management process rather than merely a static reporting activity.
“With BIRT Performance Scorecard, the City, which was previously limited to manually using traditional spreadsheets, can break down those silos by using the commentary functionality in the Actuate offering. This allows the Mayor’s Office, Budget Office and an individual departments to comment and agree on corrective action on specific metrics,” said Jeffrey Lewelling, director of performance management, City of Chicago. “As our rollout expands, more City departments will work on joint projects to increase team work and efficiency. By measuring their performance with proven tools, their ability to make data-driven decisions and report their efforts to the public increases significantly.”
The City’s ability to make data-driven decisions and report their efforts to the public increased substantially with the BIRT-based solution. The city has already consolidated financial payment processes, improved operations with the 311 City of Chicago Service Request Search program and is better managing their 39,000+ employees. The city estimates that it has saved $10 million by improving their management of overtime with Actuate’s BIRT Performance Scorecard. The city's performance management initiative holds managers strictly accountable for the performance of their departments.
“We are pleased to honor City of Chicago as a 2009 Actuate Excellence Award winner, for their innovative and constantly expanding performance management initiative using BIRT Performance Scorecard” said Nobby Akiha, senior vice president, marketing, Actuate. “The impressive savings the City of Chicago has achieved demonstrate the bottom line impact of Actuate technologies for Performance Management.”
2009 Actuate Excellence Award winners will be honored at the Actuate Customer Days held in San Francisco, October 28; New York, November 3; Frankfurt, November 10; London, November 12; and Paris, November 17.
